Archery is a popular activity at Camp James. Our certified specialists (nicknames are Bullseye and Enzo) are enthusiasts in this sport. While archery is a fun and challenging sport, it also has many benefits that may not be so obvious. Archery requires the archer to focus with great intensity. When you are aiming at your target, all other unrelated thoughts for a few seconds, will disappear. It can help improve strength, posture, concentration, and hand eye coordination. To go a step further, archery is actually a great equalizer sport for many people. Ages 8 and up and all abilities can participate in this sport.
For me as a Camp Director, there is great joy in seeing a camper hit the target or a bulls eye for the first time. The targets we post up are often wacky and weird (pineapples, balloons, plastic pink flamingos, etc). If you are seeking to find your inner Katniss or Green Arrow and can’t wait till camp starts, you can go to El Dorado Park in Long Beach (The Official Site for Olympic Archery in 1984) has affordable classes and equipment you can rent. I’ve posted a link below to the information should you be interested in venturing out that way. http://www.eldoradoarchers.com/instruction.html

Next week I will give my review of the Muppet Movie (with Tina Fey and Miss Piggy how could they go wrong?)!
